Project Assistant - SRH Next Alliance Project

About the role

Amref Health Africa is recruiting a Project Assistant for the SRH Next Alliance Project in Chifra, Afar Region. The post supports day-to-day implementation at field level, working with local government structures, health facilities, schools, youth and women-led groups, community actors and project partners. It contributes to improving access to quality, youth-friendly, gender-responsive and disability-inclusive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and strengthens community engagement, referral systems, accountability and local coordination. Routine monitoring, documentation, reporting, activity logistics and follow-up of agreed actions across the assigned woredas are also covered, and frequent field travel is essential.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, organization and implementation of approved project activities in the duty station and woredas, in line with workplans, budgets, technical guidance and Amref procedures.
• Maintain working relationships with woreda health offices, health facilities, schools, youth and women-led organizations, community leaders and other stakeholders.
• Assist with coordination of meetings, trainings, dialogues, community events and outreach, including mobilization, venue and material preparation, attendance documentation and action tracking.
• Conduct frequent field visits, follow up on agreed actions and bottlenecks, and report access, operational or security concerns to the supervisor.
• Support youth-friendly, confidential SRH service delivery arrangements and capacity-building for service providers, and follow up referral linkages among SRH, HIV/STI, SGBV response, psychosocial support and legal aid.
• Support peer education, youth dialogue, safe spaces and youth clubs, and help schools implement age-appropriate SRH education, including life-skills and menstrual health components.
• Disseminate approved SRH information through project channels and promote participation of adolescents, young women, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups.
• Collect, verify and organize monitoring data, attendance records, activity reports and referral follow-ups, enter data into project information systems and prepare field updates and reports for the supervisor.
• Prepare activity requests, participant lists, logistical arrangements, procurement follow-up and settlement documentation, and coordinate with finance, logistics, administration and programme colleagues.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Health Promotion, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies or another relevant field.
• At least two years of relevant experience supporting community-based health, SRH, adolescent/youth, gender, protection or development projects; NGO-supported programming is an advantage.
• Experience with local government structures, health facilities, schools, community organizations and/or youth groups is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting field monitoring, documentation, basic data management, training/event organization and report preparation.

Required skills

• Good understanding of adolescent and youth SRH, youth-friendly services, gender equality, inclusion and community engagement principles.
• Ability to communicate respectfully with adolescents, young people, service providers, government counterparts and community leaders.
• Basic competence in data collection, record keeping, report writing and use of MS Office.
