Protection Assistant – Monitoring

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection Assistant – Monitoring to join its protection team in Dabat, Ethiopia. Under the guidance of the Protection Team Leader and the Protection Specialist – Monitoring, you will carry out regular protection monitoring activities in IDP and refugee sites, as well as host communities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring visits in assigned areas and collect accurate data.
• Contribute to the design, testing and revision of monitoring tools and plans.
• Identify protection trends and needs through key informant interviews, focus group discussions and direct observation.
• Enter and upload data using the approved data collection system, adhering to international standards and DRC guidelines.
• Identify individuals at risk, provide information and refer them to specialized assistance.
• Support coordination of individual protection assistance and monitor the effectiveness of referrals.
• Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) to raise awareness and disseminate information on protection risks.
• Maintain daily information flow on new displacements and ensure safe referrals.
• Follow ethical data collection and data protection SOPs throughout all activities.

Required profile

• Experience in protection monitoring or related humanitarian field work.
• Ability to conduct key informant interviews, focus groups and community observations.
• Knowledge of protection information management principles and data protection standards.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work respectfully with diverse community structures.
• Willingness to travel to remote sites and work in challenging environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data collection tools and protection information management systems.
• Understanding of ethical data handling and protection SOPs.
