Senior TB Laboratory Advisor

About the role

The Senior TB Laboratory Advisor provides strategic planning, coordination and technical support for TB laboratory activities across national and regional levels, ensuring quality‑assured services for the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and its partner laboratories.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance on the optimal use of GeneXpert, Truenat, line‑probe assays and other molecular TB diagnostics.
• Support introduction and strengthening of new TB diagnostic tools, including Truenat and NPOC.
• Assist regional reference laboratories in enhancing LabXpert connectivity and quality assurance systems.
• Deliver onsite and offsite capacity‑building training for laboratory professionals.
• Ensure availability and proper use of SOPs, preventive maintenance procedures, and calibration of equipment.
• Represent the project in national and regional laboratory technical working groups.
• Analyze EQA reports, develop improvement plans, and monitor project performance against milestones.
• Facilitate transition of project gains to government and local stakeholders.

Required profile

• BSc in laboratory sciences or Master’s in public health sciences (or higher) from a recognized university.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in TB program implementation in public or private health sectors.
• Proven ability to advise senior government counterparts on policy and strategic planning.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time within project‑supported regions.
