WASH Technical Assistant

About the role

The WASH Technical Assistant will support the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene activities in the Afar Region, reporting to the WASH Project Manager. The role involves extensive field travel across multiple woredas and close coordination with community leaders and partner agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with implementation of the WASH support function portfolio and prepare status reports.
• Conduct needs assessments, sanitary surveys and technical surveys for water and sanitation infrastructure.
• Supervise construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities ensuring quality standards.
• Collect primary data, prepare regular reports on WASH and cholera activities and coordinate with the M&E team.
• Liaise with community leaders, NGOs, UN agencies and government line agencies to avoid duplication of services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Water, Hydraulics, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of technical experience in WASH and construction.
• Experience working in humanitarian or complex, volatile contexts.
• Good knowledge of English and Afari language.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
• Ability to use engineering software such as AutoCAD.
• Strong data collection and reporting skills.
