About the role
Save the Children International is seeking an Advocacy Officer on a maternity‑cover basis to strengthen its engagement with the African Union (AU) on child‑rights issues. Based in Addis Ababa, the role will focus on children affected by armed conflict and support the implementation of continental frameworks that protect children across Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Lead strategic engagement with the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) and other AU bodies.
- Collaborate with AU departments such as Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Education to integrate child‑protection priorities into their mandates.
- Promote evidence‑based advocacy to advance the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
- Build and maintain partnerships with member states, civil‑society organisations, regional networks and development partners.
- Support the monitoring and accountability mechanisms related to child‑rights commitments at the continental level.
Required profile
- Legal right to work in Ethiopia for the contract duration.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy, child‑rights policy or humanitarian contexts, preferably with a focus on armed conflict.
- Familiarity with AU structures and processes.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% internationally.
