Advocacy Officer – Maternity Cover (Ethiopia)

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking an Advocacy Officer on a maternity‑cover basis to join its Ethiopia Country Office. Based in Addis Ababa, the role will support the Global Diplomacy and Engagement Team in influencing African Union policies that affect children, especially those affected by armed conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic engagement with AU bodies, notably the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).
• Collaborate with AU departments such as Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Education to integrate child‑protection priorities.
• Promote evidence‑based advocacy for the implementation and accountability of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
• Build and maintain partnerships with member states, civil‑society organisations, regional networks and development partners.
• Support the development of policy briefs, position papers and advocacy materials related to child protection in conflict settings.

Required profile

• Right to work in Ethiopia for the contract duration.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
• Experience in international advocacy, policy analysis or child‑rights work is preferred.
