Finance Specialist

About the role

The National Finance Specialist will act as the technical anchor for donor budgeting, financial reporting, analysis and forecasting for the country programme. Working independently and with remote management capability, the role ensures accurate, timely and compliant financial outputs across a multi‑donor portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and revision of donor proposal budgets (ECHO, EU, SIDA, FCDO, USAID, DANIDA, UNICEF, etc.) ensuring alignment with donor rules, cost eligibility and exchange‑rate assumptions.
• Draft and validate budget narratives, cost‑allocation rationales and ensure consistency with logframes and procurement/HR plans.
• Own the end‑to‑end donor financial reporting cycle, including calendars, data extraction, reconciliations, currency conversions and final quality control.
• Produce clear, error‑free reports and management notes with variance explanations, risk flags and corrective actions.
• Lead and coach monthly BFU meetings, drive variance analysis, track actions to closure and provide executive summaries to senior management.
• Deliver forward‑looking financial insights such as rolling forecasts, burn rates, runway analysis and scenario planning.
• Support master‑budget gap analysis, cost‑coverage assessment and resource allocation decisions.

Required profile

• Highly qualified finance professional with extensive experience in donor‑funded budgeting, reporting and financial analysis.
• Ability to work independently, manage remote teams and provide capacity‑building to finance staff and stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of donor regulations and compliance requirements.
