National Consultant – Thematic Report on Gender Equality & GBV

About the role

UNFPA Ethiopia, supported by the European Union/Spanish Cooperation, seeks a National Consultant to produce a Year‑One thematic report on Gender Equality and Gender‑Based Violence (GBV) using the Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) 2024‑25 data. The assignment lasts 30 working days and will contribute to a three‑year analytical agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Access, review, and prepare the open‑access Ethiopia Standard DHS 2024‑25 datasets.
• Select appropriate recode files, document relevant variables, and apply DHS data‑management protocols.
• Conduct descriptive, comparative and advanced statistical analyses of gender‑equality and GBV indicators, using sampling weights and survey‑adjusted procedures.
• Analyse trends, disparities and intersections across population groups.
• Draft the thematic report, highlighting findings for policy formulation, advocacy and programme design.
• Collaborate closely with UNFPA units, government counterparts, ESS and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with DHS or similar large‑scale household survey data.
• Background in gender equality, women’s empowerment or GBV research.
• Ability to work under supervision and coordinate with multiple UN and government partners.
• Strong analytical and writing skills for evidence‑based reporting.

Required skills

• Data management of DHS datasets.
• Statistical analysis applying sampling weights and complex survey design.
• Production of thematic research reports.
