Senior Accountant – SSA Cluster 2 (Addis Ababa)

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead financial accounting activities for the British Council in Ethiopia and across the SSA Cluster 2 countries. Working closely with the Managed Service Provider, you will ensure accurate, timely reporting and compliance with corporate policies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee retained Purchase to Pay (P2P), Order to Cash (O2C), Record to Report (R2R) and Cash & Liquidity Management (CLM) processes.
• Coordinate country‑level tax reporting, statutory filing and compliance activities.
• Support audit processes, cash‑flow reporting and statutory reporting across the cluster.
• Provide finance guidance to business unit leads and operational teams, embedding new finance ways of working post‑transformation.
• Lead and mentor the local Accountant, ensuring consistent standards and delivery.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in senior accounting roles within multinational or public‑sector organisations.
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian and regional tax legislation and statutory requirements.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across several countries.
