Country Director – Ethiopia

About the role

The Country Director provides overall strategic and programmatic leadership for Right To Play’s Ethiopia office, overseeing business development, fundraising, compliance, finance and people management. The role ensures high‑impact delivery of play‑based education and psychosocial programs for children and youth across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Right To Play at national level, engaging government, donors, UN agencies and NGOs to build influence and strategic partnerships.
• Lead country‑level fundraising, proposal development and diversified funding partnerships.
• Set and drive the strategic direction of the country programme, aligning with organisational strategy and national priorities.
• Oversee programme portfolio to ensure high‑quality delivery, measurable impact and timely reporting.
• Provide strategic oversight of finance, budgeting, grant compliance and internal controls.
• Manage staff recruitment, performance, learning and development while fostering a safe, inclusive culture.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in a large or medium international development organization.
• Master’s degree in business administration, social sciences, development studies or a related field.
• Proven success mobilising new sources of program funding.
• Experience managing programmes in both stable and fragile contexts.
• Fluency in spoken and written Amharic and English.
