Director, Special Liaison Office to AU & UN ECA

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks an experienced internal candidate to lead its Special Liaison Office to the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director will manage IOM’s representation, fundraising, and strategic positioning with the African Union, its member states, and key UN bodies in Addis Ababa.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the IOM Strategic Plan by strengthening relationships with the African Union, its institutions, and other continental bodies.
• Lead advocacy efforts to mainstream migration in AU policy documents, the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the 2030 Agenda, and AU Agenda 2063.
• Represent IOM at the UN Liaison Team, the Humanitarian Coordination Forum, and the College‑to‑College (C2C) platform.
• Coordinate fundraising initiatives and ensure IOM’s visibility and influence across AU‑UN initiatives.
• Co‑convene the Continental GCM Review for Africa and support regional/sub‑regional reviews and Member State briefings.

Required profile

• Current internal or internal‑equivalent employee in the IOM Pathways Pool.
• Proven senior leadership experience in migration, international relations, or related fields.
• Deep understanding of African Union structures, UN agencies, and regional development frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high‑level advocacy, partnership building, and fundraising activities.
