Driver – Transport Staff, Visitors and Materials

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a reliable driver to safely transport staff, visitors, and equipment to approved destinations across Ethiopia. The role supports NRC’s humanitarian operations by ensuring timely and secure movement of people and goods while adhering to local traffic regulations and organisational policies.

Key responsibilities

• Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods to designated locations when officially approved.
• Maintain the safety and security of passengers, cargo and the vehicle at all times.
• Report accidents, breakdowns, and maintenance needs immediately.
• Observe local traffic laws and NRC driver and vehicle policies.
• Keep an accurate logbook for all trips.
• Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and in good technical condition; arrange repairs and servicing as needed.
• Verify that the vehicle has all required documents and equipment.
• Provide logistical support during trainings, workshops and other NRC activities.
• Be flexible to work any shift within a 24‑hour schedule, including weekends and public holidays.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum diploma in a related field.
• At least five years of driving experience, preferably in humanitarian or complex, volatile contexts.
• Experience operating vehicles in insecure environments.
• Fluency in Somali and English.
• Knowledge of the geographical area of operation.
