Head of Local Social Sector
Inkomoko · Addis-Abeba
Job description
About the role
The Head of Local Social Sector will lead Inkomoko’s regional strategy to partner with, strengthen and enable local social‑sector organisations—including refugee‑led, community‑based, youth‑led and women‑led groups—across multiple markets. This senior role builds a new organisational capability, integrating local partners into Inkomoko’s enterprise‑development model.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and continuously evolve the regional Local Social Sector strategy, operating model, partner‑selection standards and performance metrics.
- Design and implement pathways for local organisations to strengthen institutional capacity, assume greater ownership and become sustainable partners or independent entities.
- Build and lead a high‑performing regional team, recruiting, coaching and retaining talent while establishing effective cross‑functional collaboration.
- Forge and steward strategic partnerships with governments, funders, private‑sector actors and ecosystem stakeholders to unlock co‑investment and resource mobilisation.
- Integrate local social‑sector engagement with Business Growth Services, Investment, MERL and Country Leadership to enhance entrepreneurship, employment and resilience outcomes.
- Manage portfolio performance, risk, budget and resource allocation, making disciplined decisions on investment, redesign or exit of partnerships.
Required profile
- 10+ years of relevant experience with significant leadership responsibility in organisational development, institutional strengthening, localisation or partnership ecosystems.
- Proven track record of building or scaling a function, programme or partnership portfolio from an early stage.
- Strong strategic and commercial judgment, including portfolio management, resource allocation, sustainability and risk decisions.
- Experience working with local, community‑based or refugee‑led organisations, preferably in fragile or displacement‑affected contexts.
- Excellent partnership‑building and stakeholder‑management skills, able to influence without formal authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Business, Organizational Development or related field; Master’s preferred.
