Ocean Freight Team Leader (Addis Ababa)

About the role

DHL Global Forwarding is seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Team Leader to join its operations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The role focuses on coordinating the implementation of OFR Operations/Customer Service strategy, ensuring smooth flow of goods and information across global supply chains using ocean transportation.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of OFR Ops/CS strategy and plans in line with corporate guidelines.
• Monitor day‑to‑day team operations, prioritize and assign tasks to meet schedules and targets.
• Develop and maintain ocean freight productivity targets and support product development for sectors such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and aviation.
• Identify and pursue business expansion opportunities with new and existing clients, aiming for high customer retention.
• Prepare monthly performance reports and conduct regular customer visits.
• Contribute to shipping tenders, ensure timely submission of relevant documents, and respond efficiently to pricing enquiries.
• Manage inbound and outbound documentation, create and confirm transport orders, and handle import/export paperwork.
• Monitor supplier performance, propose improvements, and update customs shipment information.

Required profile

• Proven ability to coordinate implementation of operational strategies.
• Experience monitoring and directing daily freight operations.
• Capability to develop productivity targets and support specialized ocean freight products.
• Strong business development orientation with a focus on client relationship management.
• Competence in preparing reports, tender documentation, and pricing responses.
• Knowledge of import/export documentation and customs information handling.
