Policy Analyst – Fossil Fuel Transition

About the role

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is seeking a Policy Analyst focused on Fossil Fuel Transition. The role is remote and part of the IISD Energy Program, contributing to research, policy development, and advocacy that support a just, orderly, and equitable shift away from fossil fuels.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with IISD Energy experts to produce policy‑oriented research on public financial flows, fossil‑fuel subsidy phase‑outs, and economic diversification.
• Draft policy briefs, blogs, visualisations, and other communication materials tailored to policymakers, civil society, and media audiences.
• Plan and coordinate engagements with strategic partners and stakeholders across governments, NGOs, and international organisations.
• Present IISD findings and recommendations to diverse audiences, helping to embed transition goals in national and global policies.

Required profile

• Quick learner with a strong interest in climate, economic development, and energy‑transition policy analysis.
• Well‑organized, able to manage large volumes of information and work independently.
• Confident communicator comfortable presenting complex ideas to varied audiences.
