Scientific Affairs Officer

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Scientific Affairs Officer to support the Technology, Innovation, Connectivity and Infrastructure Division (TICID) in Addis Ababa. The officer will contribute to ECA’s mission of promoting science, technology and innovation (STI) for sustainable development across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regional, sub‑regional and national analyses to inform government decision‑making.
• Design and oversee complex field reviews related to STI initiatives.
• Prepare and coordinate analytical studies on STI policy, producing recommendations for ECA programmes and projects.
• Support the implementation of the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA) and align activities with relevant regional and global frameworks.
• Collaborate with the Chief of the Technologies, Innovation and Digital Transformation Section and other TICID units.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in science, technology, innovation, economics or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in policy analysis, research and programme design within an African or international context.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce policy‑relevant reports.
• Experience coordinating multi‑stakeholder initiatives and field missions.
