Sociologist and Theologian (Full‑time Academic)

About the role

Holy Trinity University seeks a dedicated Sociologist and Theologian to join its faculty in Addis Ababa. This full‑time, on‑site position combines teaching, research, and community engagement, integrating sociological insights with Orthodox theological perspectives.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sociology and theology, fostering critical inquiry.
• Develop, update, and align curricula with the university’s mission and Orthodox tradition.
• Supervise student theses, projects, and research activities.
• Produce scholarly publications and present at academic conferences.
• Collaborate with clergy, faculty, and community partners on social and pastoral initiatives.
• Contribute to liturgical, pastoral, and community programs as needed.

Required profile

• Advanced academic training in Theology or Religious Studies, preferably focused on the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church or Oriental Orthodox traditions.
• Demonstrated expertise in sociology and social work, with ability to analyze social structures and pastoral needs.
• Familiarity with psychiatry and treatment approaches for holistic care in religious contexts.
• Experience in university‑level teaching, curriculum design, and supervising research.
• Proven research record with publications or presentations in relevant academic or ecclesiastical forums.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Amharic proficiency is a plus.
