Area Manager – North Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in Ethiopia, leading the North Area Office and overseeing multiple field and project offices across Amhara, Tigray and Afar. Based in Dassie, the role reports to the Director of Program Operations and is a member of the Extended Senior Country Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and management for two or more field offices and project sites, supervising up to 130 staff.
• Develop and implement area‑level strategies, annual operational plans and ensure compliance with SCI core business processes, policies and procedures.
• Oversee a budget exceeding USD 7 million, managing more than 15 active awards from bilateral and multilateral donors.
• Coordinate with CO units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) and support Field Managers and functional leads in Finance, Supply Chain, HR/Admin, and Safety.
• Ensure child safeguarding standards (Level 3) are met and that all staff adhere to fraud, bribery and corruption policies.
• Represent SCI in external partnerships, fostering strong relationships with donors, government agencies and NGOs.
• Respond to major humanitarian emergencies, adapting working hours and duties as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large, multi‑sector humanitarian programmes.
• Proven ability to lead diverse teams and handle budgets over USD 7 million.
• Strong knowledge of child safeguarding, fraud prevention and compliance frameworks.
• Willingness to travel frequently across the North Area and work in challenging field conditions.
