Area Manager – South-Central Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in Ethiopia, leading the South‑Central Area Office. Based in Addis Ababa, the role oversees three or more field and project offices, ensuring high‑quality programme delivery across health, nutrition, WASH, education, food security, livelihoods, child protection and child rights governance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and day‑to‑day oversight for field offices and project teams.
• Develop and implement area‑level strategies, annual operational plans and budgets exceeding USD 5 million.
• Coordinate with the Country Director of Program Operations and senior country units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security).
• Ensure compliance with Save the Children policies, including fraud, bribery, child safeguarding and risk management.
• Maintain strong relationships with donors, partners and government stakeholders.
• Lead emergency response efforts, adapting working hours and responsibilities as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience (minimum 8‑10 years) in humanitarian programme management, preferably at senior regional level.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and multiple donor awards.
• Strong understanding of child safeguarding and compliance requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
