Assistant Professor

About the role

The Assistant Professor position is a full‑time, on‑site role at Bahir Dar University in Bahir Dar City, Ethiopia. The incumbent will combine teaching, research, and community engagement to support the university’s mission of excellence and internationalization.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, prepare course materials, deliver lectures, lead seminars, and assess student performance through assignments, exams, and projects.
• Conduct original research, publish findings in peer‑reviewed venues, and pursue external and internal research funding.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students and junior colleagues.
• Participate in curriculum development, program review, and contribute to departmental and university committees.
• Engage in community service and develop partnerships aligned with the university’s social responsibility goals.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline.
• Demonstrated teaching competence in higher education, including course design, classroom instruction, and student assessment.
• Strong research record or clear potential for scholarly publications.
• Effective written and oral communication, collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, and ability to work in a culturally diverse academic environment.

• Data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results through peer‑reviewed journals and conferences.
