Finance Manager

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council, a leading humanitarian NGO, is recruiting a Finance Manager for its Addis Ababa country office. The role keeps the country office financially healthy, strengthens donor relationships and supports localisation, while ensuring compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines. It also gives the manager the power to manage the Finance department, including hiring, suspending, dismissing or assigning staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Finance team, set clear roles and expectations, and make sound decisions based on DRC policies, MOPs and technical advice
• Manage recruitment, performance appraisals, probation and disciplinary matters, and coach staff development
• Oversee financial planning and analysis, cash flow, financial risk, budgeting and reporting, and ensure timely financial reports to donors, HQ and colleagues
• Ensure compliance with tax, levies and statutory returns, and prepare for local audits with the Head of Support Services and external auditors
• Hold monthly budget follow-up reviews and project monitoring meetings, and liaise with programme managers on funding, co-funding and variances
• Keep a continuous overview of funding levels, including shared support costs, and collect cash forecasts from programme managers
• Ensure DRC Dynamics is used fully, support ERP finance processes across the country, train finance staff and appoint ERP super users
• Strengthen internal controls, coordinate approval and monitoring of spending by area managers, and train non-finance staff on financial management
• Travel to field locations about 30% of the time to oversee field office financial systems
• Review project expenses against budget, forecast future performance, and prepare ad hoc reports and annual prognoses for senior management
