Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advisor

About the role

This three‑month volunteer placement supports Hiwot Ethiopia in mainstreaming gender equality and social inclusion across its programmes and operations. The advisor will work onsite in Addis Ababa, collaborating with local staff and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead gender and social inclusion initiatives, providing technical assistance and capacity‑building to staff and partners.
• Conduct gender audits, update policies, and ensure integration of gender considerations in project proposals and operations.
• Support resource mobilisation for gender‑sensitive projects and collaborate with MenEngage Ethiopia and safeguarding teams.
• Oversee data tracking, map civil‑society organisations involved in safeguarding, and develop knowledge tools such as studies and toolkits.
• Design, monitor, and evaluate gender‑focused programmes, delivering training and promoting mainstreaming of gender and social inclusion.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, International Development, Public Policy, Economics, Human Rights or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum three years of experience in gender and social inclusion, including at least one year at the international level.
• Proven experience conducting gender audits, developing policies, and designing gender‑responsive projects.
• Experience working with multilateral or bilateral development organisations in developing countries.
• Demonstrated ability to mobilise resources for gender‑responsive initiatives.
