Head of Division – Health Systems, Diseases and Nutrition

About the role

The African Union seeks an interim Head of Division to lead the Health Systems, Diseases and Nutrition unit in Addis Ababa. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership, design policies and oversee the division’s activities until a permanent appointment is made.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage 4 direct and 6 indirect reports, ensuring performance evaluation and quality assurance.
• Design and implement division strategies and policies aligned with AU health goals, including the Africa Health Strategy and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan.
• Mobilise funding from donors, coordinate stakeholder engagement with Member States, RECs and international partners, and represent the AU at conferences.
• Prepare and monitor budgets, financial reports and progress reports, recommending corrective actions as needed.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Systems, Nutrition or related field.
• At least 12 years of experience, with 7 years at managerial level and 5 years supervising staff.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and evaluate multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, Spanish).
• Strong ability to develop collaborative approaches across culturally diverse partners.
