Head of Programs Ethiopia

About the role

ForAfrika, an African-rooted organisation working in emergency relief and long-term development, is looking for a Head of Programs to lead all programmatic functions across its Ethiopia operations. The role covers program implementation, quality assurance, community integration, DMEAL, and emergency response coordination, with solid-line reporting to the Country Director and dotted-line reporting to the Director of Programs.

Key responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and quality frameworks for programs in health, education, WASH, food security, livelihoods and emergency response, adhering to SPHERE, CHS and donor compliance
• Lead the country program strategy, monitor performance against targets and budgets, and coordinate with finance on budget variance analysis
• Manage program proposals and maintain relationships with donors, government partners and implementing partners
• Ensure community participation, local ownership and culturally sensitive, conflict-sensitive programming
• Lead emergency preparedness, contingency plans, rapid response, cluster meetings and emergency supply stocks
• Mentor program managers, MEAL officers and field coordinators, and build organisational capacity
• Act as main liaison with donors and government, represent the organisation at forums, and help develop fundraising strategy

Required profile

• Degree in a development-related field such as agriculture, economics or social sciences
• 8-10 years of experience in international development or humanitarian programming, including at least 5 years in senior management
• Experience managing multi-sector programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, preferably Mozambique, and in emergency response
• Right to live and work in Ethiopia; the company does not sponsor candidates

Required skills

• Program cycle management, SPHERE, CHS, HAP and DMEAL methodologies
• Knowledge of USAID, EU, UN and bilateral donor requirements
• English communication; local language skills are an advantage
