Horticulture Market Development Advisor

About the role

SNV is hiring a Horticulture Market Development Advisor for its Horti-LIFE Green Growth programme in Ethiopia. The role strengthens inclusive and sustainable horticultural market systems so that farmers, farmer organisations, agribusinesses and service providers become more competitive, profitable and resilient. It focuses on strengthening farmer organisations and cooperatives to become business-oriented, market-responsive and export-ready.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct market systems analyses and design market development interventions that promote market-led solutions rather than direct project delivery
• Strengthen supporting functions such as embedded services, access to finance, logistics, market information, input supply and aggregation
• Lead value chain studies, market assessments, market intelligence and business opportunity analyses, and turn findings into practical interventions and business cases
• Facilitate collaboration between producers, buyers, exporters, service providers, financial institutions and government stakeholders
• Support farmer organisations in aggregation, traceability, record keeping, quality assurance and contract management, and develop roadmaps to export readiness
• Provide technical support on food safety and certification, including Local GAP and Global GAP, and coordinate training and coaching
• Generate lessons learned, technical reports, case studies and market briefs, and backstop regional teams and partners

Required profile

• Master's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Horticulture, Rural Development, International Trade or a related field
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's, or 9 years with a Bachelor's degree
• Demonstrated experience implementing market development approaches in agriculture or horticulture
• Experience in donor-funded programmes and multi-stakeholder environments
• Fluency in written and spoken English, with strong reporting, facilitation and presentation skills
