Protection Assistant – Monitoring

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection Assistant – Monitoring to support protection activities in Debark and surrounding areas of Ethiopia. Reporting to the Protection Team Leader and under the technical supervision of the Protection Specialist – Monitoring, you will conduct regular monitoring visits, collect and analyse data, and refer individuals at risk to appropriate services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring visits in assigned IDP/refugee sites and host communities.
• Contribute to the development, testing and review of monitoring tools and plans.
• Collect, encode and upload data using DRC’s protection monitoring system in line with international standards.
• Identify protection trends, risks and individuals at risk through interviews, focus groups and observation.
• Provide information, referrals and direct assistance to vulnerable persons.
• Monitor beneficiaries’ access to services and the effectiveness of referral mechanisms.
• Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) for awareness‑raising and information sharing.
• Maintain data protection standards and adhere to ethical collection protocols.
• Participate in relevant trainings, including Protection Information Management.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in protection monitoring or humanitarian assistance.
• Ability to work with displaced populations, host communities and local stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills for identifying trends and risks.
• Commitment to data protection and ethical standards.
• Fluency in English; ability to produce concise reports.
