Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will join Africa Village Microfinance’s Head Office in Addis Ababa, supporting the institution’s mission to expand financial inclusion across Ethiopia. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, compliance, and oversight of core accounting processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring timely month‑end and year‑end closures.
• Prepare and analyse financial statements in accordance with IFRS/GAAP.
• Conduct internal and external audit support, providing required documentation and explanations.
• Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow across the branch network.
• Ensure regulatory reporting and compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, including VAT, withholding and payroll tax.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis to support strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 4–6 years of professional experience in financial accounting, auditing or general ledger management.
• At least 2 years in a senior or supervisory accounting position.
• Knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and Ethiopian tax regulations.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with accounting software.
• Experience using Core Banking Systems (CBS) and ERP platforms.
• Strong command of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
