Special Adviser – Sudan Political Dialogue & Process Coordination

About the role

The Special Adviser will support the Chairperson of the African Union, through the Chief of Staff, in advancing and coordinating AU‑backed civilian dialogue processes for Sudan. Based in Addis Ababa with periodic trips to Khartoum, the role contributes to inclusive political dialogue, peacebuilding and the African Union’s strategic engagement in Sudan’s political transition.

Key responsibilities

• Structure, coordinate and advance AU‑supported civilian dialogue initiatives related to Sudan.
• Maintain day‑to‑day engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, map actors, facilitate interactions and track commitments.
• Provide regular political analysis, strategic advice and recommendations to inform AU decision‑making.
• Monitor dialogue processes, ensure systematic follow‑up of political developments and stakeholder interactions.
• Strengthen coherence between AU programmes and regional/international efforts on Sudan.
• Establish and maintain coordination mechanisms with AU departments, partners and external stakeholders.
• Prepare strategic briefings, talking points and analytical products for senior officials.

Required profile

• Proven experience in political dialogue, peacebuilding or conflict resolution, preferably in the African context.
• Strong understanding of Sudan’s political landscape and regional dynamics.
• Excellent stakeholder‑engagement and networking abilities.
• Ability to produce high‑quality analytical outputs under tight deadlines.
