Specialty Analyst - Ethiopian Coffee Sourcing

About the role

Volcafe, a leading international green coffee trading company and part of ED&F Man Commodities, is looking for a Specialty Analyst in Addis Ababa. The analyst supports the team in sourcing Ethiopian specialty coffees from growers and exporters across the country's coffee regions and promotes them to clients worldwide. The role sits within the commercial team, reports to the General Manager and involves significant travel upcountry.

Key responsibilities

• Build working relationships with specialty suppliers and maintain a current list of available lots.
• Work closely with the QC team to generate and share sensory evaluation reports.
• Organize training and events for suppliers of high-quality coffees.
• Lead and contribute to projects and content for the specialty community.
• Oversee specialty purchases in close collaboration with the execution team.
• Act as a key resource for stakeholders in specialty supply chains.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, International Trade or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in coffee production, processing, specialty sourcing, supply chain coordination or related agri-commodity operations; dry mill experience is a plus.
• Experience in coffee exports with exposure to the specialty segment.
• Knowledge of Ethiopian specialty qualities, preferably with field experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication in Amharic and English.

• Detail orientation and self-management.
• Comfort in a modern corporate computing environment; data management background highly desirable.
• Advanced computing skills and task automation experience considered a plus.
