Consultant for Liaison Office

About the role

UN Women is seeking a Consultant to provide strategic leadership and technical coordination for its Liaison Office to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The role supports the development and implementation of regional gender equality and women’s empowerment programmes, ensuring coherent advocacy and policy engagement across UN Women’s regional and country offices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the Regional Liaison portfolio in line with the Strategic Note and programme documents.
• Provide technical inputs on policy and programme development for gender equality and women’s empowerment to AU, UN partners and NGOs.
• Coordinate engagement with regional partners and stakeholders, strengthening partnerships and facilitating knowledge management.
• Oversee programme planning, implementation, and quality assurance across all components.
• Support the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate and specialized AU departments to mainstream gender across AU frameworks.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in gender equality, women’s empowerment, or related international development fields.
• Strong understanding of AU structures, UNECA, and UN Women’s mandate.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑stakeholder coordination and advocacy initiatives.
• Excellent analytical and policy‑writing skills.
