Research Manager – Digital Agriculture (Addis Ababa)

About the role

Precision Development (PxD) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and self‑motivated Research Manager to join its Ethiopia team, working closely with a government office. The role combines rigorous research with real‑world program delivery, designing, testing and improving digital agriculture services that can reach farmers at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to improve program impact and shape new research ideas.
• Lead research projects from design through implementation, analysis and dissemination.
• Oversee data management and analysis, including survey design, A/B testing and statistical modelling.
• Interpret internal and external evidence and translate findings into practical program recommendations.
• Manage relationships with government agencies, research institutions and other external partners.
• Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and in‑country research permissions.
• Mentor associate‑level staff and support internal and external communications of research results.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in economics, agricultural economics, public policy or a related field.
• Experience leading at least three large, evidence‑based research projects in low‑ and middle‑income countries.
• Strong ability to draw inferences from data and apply findings to program design.
• Experience synthesising academic literature and applying insights to research and program design.
• Deep understanding of economics, randomized evaluations and the full research life‑cycle.
• Proven experience working with government agencies or development partners.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English; Amharic fluency is a plus.
• Willingness to travel to field sites across Ethiopia.
