Accountant

About the role

A finance team is looking for a detail-oriented and organized Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, prepare financial reports, manage daily accounting activities and ensure compliance with Ethiopian financial regulations and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Reconcile bank statements and company accounts.
• Process tax declarations and statutory filings using the ERCA/eTax system, including VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, pension and other obligations.
• Handle import and export documentation through the Ethiopian Electronic Single Window (ESW) and eTrade platform, and submit regulatory reports via the EIC Online System.
• Prepare and process payroll in coordination with HR, and assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, support internal and external audits, and keep financial records properly filed.
• Recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3-4 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws and financial regulations.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail; good communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with the ERCA/eTax system for tax filing.
• Familiarity with the eTrade platform, ESW and EIC Online System.
• Proficiency in Peachtree, Odoo or similar ERP systems.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Apps.
