Driver (GS-2) – Temporary Appointment in Jigjiga, Ethiopia

About the role

The Driver will provide reliable and safe transportation services to UNFPA senior staff, visitors and officials in Jigjiga. Reporting to the Regional Programme Officer, the role supports mission-critical mobility and logistical needs.

Key responsibilities

• Drive office vehicles for staff, officials and visitors, including airport pickups and managing visa/customs formalities when required.
• Maintain vehicle logs, arrange major repairs, conduct minor repairs, cleaning and ensure the vehicle remains in good running condition.
• Handle mail and documentation delivery, track insurance and tax formalities, and assist with vehicle maintenance planning.
• Act as a local‑language translator for official passengers when needed and coach junior drivers.
• Provide occasional administrative support to CO staff.

Required profile

• Completed secondary education.
• Valid driver’s licence and at least three years of driving experience in an international organisation, embassy or UN system with a safe record.
• Knowledge of local road conditions, defensive driving, chauffeur protocol and security awareness.
• Basic knowledge of the official UN language of the duty station.
