Junior Compliance Officer

About the role

ChapaChapa Financial Technologies S.C. is a digital payment gateway for small businesses and large merchants. Its Addis Ababa-based Compliance team is hiring a full-time, on-site Junior Compliance Officer to support the implementation and monitoring of the company's compliance framework, covering AML/CFT, KYC, merchant due diligence, transaction monitoring, regulatory reporting and record management.

Key responsibilities

• Help implement and maintain AML/CFT and KYC policies, review onboarding documents against CDD and EDD requirements, and carry out customer and merchant risk assessments and PEP and sanctions screening.
• Monitor payment transactions, flag suspicious activity, conduct preliminary reviews and help prepare internal suspicious transaction reports.
• Track regulatory updates, assist with regulatory reports and notifications, and communicate compliance requirements internally.
• Identify compliance risks, run periodic reviews of merchant activities and onboarding, and recommend corrective actions.
• Support AML/CFT, KYC and compliance awareness training, onboarding of new employees and internal and external audits.
• Maintain compliance records, reports and an organized repository of compliance documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
• At least one year of relevant experience in compliance, risk management, AML/CFT, internal audit, banking or financial services; relevant internship experience may also be considered.
• Familiarity with fintech, digital payments, banking or other regulated financial services is an advantage.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of AML/CFT, KYC, CDD, EDD, sanctions screening and PEP screening.
• Good analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
