Water & Climate Officer

About the role

The Water & Climate Officer will provide technical leadership and engineering support to strengthen the performance, resilience and sustainability of rural water service providers within the North Mecha Universal WASH Programme. The role focuses on the From Tap to Policy Project and aims to improve efficiency, professionalisation and climate‑resilience of water utilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead system‑strengthening and infrastructure optimisation for rural water utilities.
• Develop and implement climate‑resilient water safety plans and water quality management strategies.
• Collaborate with local government, service providers and communities to enhance operational performance and long‑term sustainability.
• Generate technical evidence and learning to inform programme improvement and policy engagement.
• Support the design, upgrading, operation and maintenance of water supply systems.

Required profile

• BSc degree or higher in Water Supply & Environmental Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience for MSc holders or 7 years for BSc holders, with strong WASH programming background.
• Proven experience providing technical and engineering support to rural water supply systems.
• Demonstrated ability to strengthen and professionalise rural water service providers.
• Strong understanding of climate‑resilient WASH approaches.
