Consultant – Lead Exposure and Poison Project

About the role
The World Health Organization is seeking an external consultant to support Ethiopia's Ministry of Health in addressing lead exposure and poisoning. The consultant will work on strengthening clinical management, enhancing poisons centre capacity, and improving access to essential antidotes over a seven‑month fixed‑term assignment.
Key responsibilities
- Review and update national protocols and guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of lead poisoning.
- Develop training modules, job aids, and conduct workshops for clinicians at national and sub‑national levels.
- Support the establishment and strengthening of poisons centres, including surveillance, case management, and public communication.
- Assist the Ministry of Health in procurement planning for lead‑specific antidotes and chelators to ensure sustainable supply.
- Collaborate with WHO Country Office, DPC cluster team, and other stakeholders to align technical assistance with national priorities.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in public health, toxicology, environmental health, or a related field.
- Proven experience in clinical management of lead poisoning or similar toxic exposures.
- Familiarity with health system strengthening and capacity‑building in low‑ and middle‑income settings.
- Ability to work closely with government ministries, WHO teams, and international partners.
Required skills
- Technical expertise in lead poisoning diagnosis, treatment, and antidote use.
- Experience developing clinical guidelines and training materials.
- Knowledge of poisons centre operations and surveillance systems.
